Positive Influences
I’ve always been quite creative and would often spend a lot of time with my grandparents as a child. They’d really encourage creative thinking and I loved sewing and cross stitch or making things from wood and grass dolls in the warmer months!
Like others, my creativity took a bit of a back seat over the years and become more of a hobby without realising one day it would actually become part of my job.
Creative Outlet
It was actually much later on in life during university, while studying healthcare, where my creativity really blossomed again. I was working as a rehabilitation support worker teaching art and crafts alongside raising my children; but really found how creativity in various forms is just so powerful for people. I loved not only teaching and sharing my skills with others, but the therapeutic feeling of creativity was so beneficial to others and for myself to relax at the end of a long day.
I began to self-teach myself varied crafts for my sessions (like stencilling and wood-burning /pyrography), but actually fell into crochet by chance!! I would spend hours and every spare moment practicing and very quickly became hooked! It’s been almost a decade since I began crocheting and a lot has changed more so over the past year. My passion for quirky and fun crochet amigurumi patterns are sometimes designed from my digital illustrations, and I really enjoy putting this modernised twist on my work.
A Growing Success
With my love for mint tea and fondness of my grandparents’ garden of herbs and numerous vegetables; Mintilla was launched earlier this year. Since the summer my work has really taken off and I now work remotely from my home-based studio, around my children. As I also provide crocheted home décor items to a coastal brick and mortar shop, I also get to travel with my work.
It’s been a really super busy couple of months which I’m just so grateful for and the immense sense of community and support I’ve had. I love connecting with people, making them smile with my designs or creating something beautiful for them.
I’m really excited to be branching into some new areas and fresh designs for the year ahead I can’t wait to share this with everyone! 😊
