Discovering Handmade Baby Cardigans Just Got Easier on Made By Mums
We’ve launched a brand new enhanced filtering experience for our Baby Cardigans category. Now you can browse to the tune of your own shopping requirements, making it easier than ever to discover the perfect handmade cardigan.
Baby cardigans have long been one of the most popular categories on Made By Mums. From beautifully hand-knitted newborn pieces to colourful crocheted outfits and cosy winter warmers, the category is packed full of lovingly handmade creations from independent UK makers.
But with over 280 different baby cardigans currently available, we know that finding the perfect item amongst such a large collection can sometimes feel overwhelming.
So we decided it was time to rethink the browsing experience.
Introducing Enhanced Filtering for Baby Cardigans
Today, we’re pleased to launch a brand new enhanced filtering system for the Baby Cardigans category, designed to help customers discover products more easily and connect makers with the shoppers most likely to love their work.

The updated category now includes a new set of quick-toggle filtering buttons, allowing visitors to browse by both style and use case in just a couple of taps.
Customers can now quickly explore collections including:
- Hand knitted styles
- Chunky and textured cardigans
- Bright colourful outfits
- Matching outfit sets
- Crochet styles
- Traditional and vintage-inspired designs
- Everyday basics
- Baby shower gifts
- Winter warmers
- Coming home outfits
- Everyday wear
- And many more!
These new enhancements work alongside our existing filtering and sorting tools too, meaning customers can still narrow results by:
- Sale items
- Price range
- Product reviews
- Latest products
- Popularity
Moving Beyond Traditional Marketplace Browsing
Behind the scenes, this update represents something much bigger than a simple visual evolution.
What we’ve looked to create is a category specific discovery layer on top of a traditional product category.
Many marketplaces rely on a multiple page interface, typically with more generic sorting and some basic price filtering. These are solid features of any project category system, and a place from which we were looking to evolve to a more curatable shopping experience.
When customers shop handmade, they are rarely searching for a precise specification.
Instead, they are often looking for:
- A feeling
- A style
- An occasion
- A colour palette
- A seasonal theme
- Or simply inspiration
The challenge is to meet their requirements head on – no easy task as every product category has its own set of considerations. No two are the same.
So, our new system added to the baby cardigans category helps visitors quickly narrow the collection down based on the kind of item they actually have in mind.
Whether somebody is searching for:
- A cosy winter warmer
- A bright colourful cardigan
- A coming home outfit
- A baby shower gift
- Or a chunky textured knit
…the category can now guide them there much more naturally.
A More Curated Experience
One of the key decisions behind this project was to make the experience category-specific rather than introducing one generic filtering system site-wide.

That means:
- Only relevant filters appear
- Categories can have their own curated browsing experiences
- The interface feels cleaner and less overwhelming
- Sellers benefit from more targeted product discoverability
The system has also been designed with flexibility and performance in mind.
For example:
- Filters are curated to appear in specific use cases – never generically templated
- Different categories can support entirely different browsing experiences
- The interface adapts between desktop and mobile layouts
- Active filters remain visually clear and easy to remove
- The experience stays lightweight despite being highly customised
The result is a browsing experience that feels much more intentional and editorial, while still remaining fast and easy to use.
More Than Just Filters
Alongside the new filtering system, we’ve also introduced several additional improvements to the baby cardigans page to make it more useful and informative overall.

Visitors to the page will now also find:
✅ A dedicated buyers guide for baby cardigans
✅ Helpful answers to common customer questions
✅ Related categories and collections worth exploring
Together, these updates aim to transform the category from a simple product archive into a curated shopping experience that is enjoyable and easy to use.
Supporting Our Independent Makers
One of the most exciting aspects of this update is the benefit it brings to our community of independent makers.
Baby cardigan sellers on Made By Mums will now notice new options available when adding or editing their products. These allow makers to assign the new styles and occasion options for their listings, helping products appear in the most relevant areas of the new filtering system.
To help launch the new experience, we’ve also retroactively added these new attributes to many existing products where we felt they were a good fit.
Of course, we’re only human, and with hundreds of handmade products across the category, there may occasionally be items that don’t feel perfectly categorised. However, sellers can easily review and update their selections themselves at any time through their product dashboard – improving the value of the new system for them and their customers.
A Step Towards Smarter Product Discovery
Ultimately, this update changes how customers explore the marketplace.

We aim to “Discover products that match the style or occasion you actually have in mind.”
If we’re successful, that subtle pivot is the real value of what we’ve built.
This is something we will aspire to strategically roll out to further categories in future, particularly those with large product ranges that would benefit most from improved discoverability.
We’d love to hear from you about this! Which category would you most like to see enhanced next?
You can explore the new Baby Cardigans category now.
As always, thank you for continuing to support independent makers and small creative businesses across the UK ❤️
