As 2018 draws to a close, we’re taking a look at one of our favourite moments this year, a collaboration to bring smiles to new parents this Christmas

From the day we shared our Made By Mums project with the world, we began to connect with amazing makers and crafty creators from communities across the Internet. We’ve only been going for a matter of months, but already we count as friends a whole host of fabulous people brought together through craft and parenthood.

One of our favourite things to come out of this so far has been a fantastic collaboration with the lovely Loo Loo (@looloocraft on Instagram). As it’s Christmas (yay!), we thought now would be the perfect time to look back on it.

A ‘last good deed’ for the year…

Loo Loo’s beautifully selfless idea, to make baby hats and donate them to her hospital in time for Christmas, truly warmed our hearts. Her ambitious target was to make 50 little hats for the hospital’s neo natal ward. We immediately loved the idea, and were delighted to get involved by helping to make some hats towards the target.

Getting started: a side line in Santa hat making!

With an ambitious target and not much time, we needed to get creative! As Loo Loo explained in a post, she developed a great way to find time for the hats. “In between my orders, I make one or two of these”. Meanwhile, I experimented with the wonderfully detailed videos that were sent over, writing down a pattern to help speed things up.

The final stretch – hats ready for delivery!

With hats starting to roll off the production line, I was beginning to feel like a jolly old Christmas elf as I went! It wasn’t long before my hats (10 in total) were ready to be sent over to join the others in production. We were overjoyed to see they’d arrived safely in a lovely photo posted by Loo Loo.

Two weeks later, and 40 little hats were finished in total – 10 from us and no less than 30 from Loo Loo – what an effort! They were now ready for a very special delivery… As Loo Loo explained in a post, the hats (pictured below), “couldn’t all fit in the photo”! Yet one thing was clear – in the photo or not, they were all “unique, and handmade with lots of love!”

Loo Loo’s “last good deed” is such a lovely idea, and in the end, the hats that were delivered to her hospital warmed the heads and hearts of new born babies and their parents; a magical moment at this most festive time of the year.

We’d like to say a huge congratulations to Loo Loo, I’m sure that these little hats mean so much to the parents – a truly selfless little act of kindness to make the world a happier place.

We’re excited to say that between us, we’ve already got even bigger plans for next Christmas! By starting earlier and releasing a pattern, we’ll be inviting others to join in and see if we can make next year’s “last good deed” even bigger than this year!

From all of us here at Made By Mums, we wish you the happiest Christmas, and look forward to much more in the New Year!
