A little story about an uphill journey

I have a baby. No, that is not the story, well not all of it. Having a baby hurts, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Ever heard of Hyperemesis Gravidarum? I wish I hadn’t. You don’t really know how you are supposed to feel, but I knew it certainly shouldn’t be like that. I needed advice and sought it. I needed support and found it. It has been and still is an incredible journey. Highs, lows, laughs and tears.

I decided to embrace both the awful pregnancy and the wonderful first year of my son’s life; to share my perfectly imperfect experience. I want other mothers struggling before, during, and after giving birth to feel that we are all in this together, even if we feel alone. To give people a reason to smile on the tough days. To know that there are endless moments of joy and love that you can find amongst the challenges.

I have done this with a collection of poems written mostly with one hand, sometimes whilst crying and sometimes whilst laughing. And sometimes all at the same time.

If only one person, reads one poem, that helps them through one day, I will feel good work has been done. More would be lovely, but I know how I would have felt if I had been the one.
