I have used King Cole baby DK yarn in Pebble. This yarn is 100% Premium Acrylic. It is soft to the touch but it is easy care. It can be machine washed at 40 degrees and tumble-dried on a cool setting.

The hat is a pull-on style with lots of traditional cables.
It has a double brim to keep little ears war, and is topped with matching pom pom.
